Dev Log #6: Ayon Wickramasinghe

April 15th, 2025

A.R Graduation Team (Beginning of the Final Stages)

We started production of our final Graduation App. We spent the past few weeks

creating assets for the app and troubleshooting glitches within our prototype. We

also finally decided on a name for our app. “Beyond the Tassel”

Sara was in charge of creating the UI and buttons for our AR experience. She made

some designs resemble diplomas and did a great job making both a simple UI that

fits our theme for the app. Here are some examples of her work.

Physical Production

During class time we finally completed our first batch of grad-cap cards to hand

out to seniors. Our goal was 500 cards but we ended up with 480 because there was

a lack of tassels. Nonetheless we’re happy with how they came out and are

currently planning the most effective way to hand them out to graduates.

360 Scans

We rented out an Insta360 camera and spent a day taking 360 pictures of iconic

CSUN areas, including the library, matador statue, duck pond, etc. These images

are going to be used for our “Memory Lane” section of our app. This section will

allow users to revisit a 360 space of some of their favorite spots from CSUN. Ian

was in charge of taking the 360 scans and editing out Trey who was holding the

monopod (we weren’t able to get the monopod to stand on its own).

3D-Modeling

Nareg was in charge of creating 3D model assets for our app. These included a

model of the CSUN Library, Graduation Stage, and sticky notes for our alumni

experience. Trey took the assets into blender in order to export them as .glb files,

so that they could be usable in Hoverlay.

3D Animation

Trey was also in charge of animating the sticky note for our Alumni section. He

took the submissions we received from alumni from our Google form and attached

their quotes to the sticky note model. He created a flipping animation in blender,

where every time the sticky note flipped it presented a new quote that one of the

alumni wrote.

Hoverlay - Assembling the First Prototype

I took all the assets we had completed and began to assemble the first prototype of

our graduation app. The home page features 4 main buttons that take you to

different experiences. There are plenty of issues and bugs that need to be fixed, but

the overall skeleton of our app is complete. All spaces that we need in our app are

currently implemented, so we have the next 2 weeks to troubleshoot and make the

app more aesthetically pleasing. Our goal is to finish a few days before May 1st.

That’s when we plan to have a table event to hand out as many of the grad-cards as

we can.
